Alexander Alberro

Alexander Alberro (born December 8, 1957 ) is an American art critic and professor of art history .

Alberro received his Bachelor (BA) and Master of Arts (MA) degrees from the University of British Columbia in 1990 for his work entitled The turning of the screw: the Sixth Guggenheim International Exhibition, Daniel Buren, and the new cultural conservatism , in which deals in particular with the Guggenheim's censorship against Daniel Buren . The academic degree Ph.D. he received from Northwestern University .

He writes art history books and essays, is the author of Conceptual Art and the Politics of Publicity and co-authored Conceptual Art: A Critical Anthology with art historian Blake Stimson . Both are also the editors of the volume Institutional Critique , published in 2009, which, based on the anti-authoritarian movement of the 1960s and 1970s, sheds light on how institutional criticism is expressed in the museum and art market as an artistic attitude. Alberro was a professor of art history at the University of Florida and is now the Virginia Bloedel Wright Professor of Art History at Barnard College at Columbia University , New York City . Here he teaches modern and contemporary art , especially conceptual art , as well as the history of photography.
