Alexander Alexandrowitsch Morosow ( Russian Алекса́ндр Алекса́ндрович Моро́зов ; * 16 October July / 29 October 1904 greg. In Beschiza, Orjol Governorate - June 14, 1979 in Kharkov ) was a Soviet engineer and armored engineer in the rank of Soviet engineer general. He headed the OKB-520 and is one of the creators of the T-34 tank.

Life

Morozov was born on October 16 of the Julian calendar in 1904 in Beshiza (now part of Bryansk ). He attended the six-class school and began to work as an employee in the Kharkov locomotive works in 1919 . He later worked as a technical draftsman and designer and was involved in the design of the first Kommunar crawler tractors .

Morosow did his military service in the Red Army as a driver and was discharged from the army in 1928. From 1929 to 1931 he completed a correspondence course at the Moscow Lomonosov Institute of Mechanics and Electrical Engineering (now Moscow State Technical University "Moscow Automobile Mechanics Institute"). In the late 1930s he was involved in the development of the A-20 and A-32 tanks, the prototypes of the T-34 series tank.

After the death of the chief designer Koschkin in 1940, Morozov took over the management of the design office GP ChKMB in Kharkov. In October 1941, Factory No. 183 was evacuated to Nizhny Tagil together with the design office for the duration of the war . In 1943 Morosow was accepted into the CPSU. In 1945 he was promoted to major general engineer. After the liberation, the factory returned to Kharkov with the OKB.

The T-64 (1963) and T-64A (1966) tanks were developed under Morosov's direction . Since June 1976 he was a consultant at the Kharkov Engineering Design Bureau and a member of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Ministry of Mechanical Engineering of the USSR.

Morozov was a member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from 1958 to 1962 . In 1972 he received his doctorate in engineering.

He died on June 14, 1979 in Kharkov and was buried in the No. 2 cemetery.

Prizes and awards

Honors

The Charkow Mechanical Engineering Center, the OKB, which he directed, and a street in Charkow were named after Morosow. On May 8, 1982, a bust was erected in the Brjansk machine shop in Brjansk.
