Alexander Baumann (artist)

Alexander Baumann (born April 12, 1850 in Reval , Estonia Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 1915 in Saint Petersburg , Russian Empire) was a German-Baltic sculptor , painter and art teacher .

Life

Baumann attended the Dresden Art Academy from 1864 and joined Johannes Schilling's studio in the winter semester of 1868/1869 . In 1872 he returned to Saint Petersburg. From 1874 to 1876 Baumann attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where he was instructed in the painting class of Eduard von Gebhardt . Baumann worked as a teacher at the Stieglitz Art School in Saint Petersburg. In the 1870s he took part in exhibitions at the Dresden Art Academy, which awarded him a small silver medal as well as a small and a large gold medal.
