Alexander Belonogoff

Alexander "Sasha" Belonogoff (born April 17, 1990 in Moura , Queensland ) is a former Australian rower .

Belonogoff comes from a Russian family and grew up in Rockhampton . His international rowing career began at the 2008 Junior World Championships when he and Nicholas Barnier won the bronze medal in the double scull. The following year he won bronze in the quadruple sculls at the U23 World Championships together with Matthew Bolt, David Wright and James McRae . Three years later he won another bronze medal at the U23 World Championships in 2012 together with Jay Ditmarsh, Benjamin Morley and Ryan Edwards.

In front of a home crowd in Sydney, Belonogoff made his debut in the 2013 rowing World Cup with a third place in the double scull, and at the rowing world championships in 2013 he finished eighth with Thomas Swann . In 2014 Belonogoff rowed in two boat classes at the World Cup in Sydney, he won in the double scull and finished second in the double scull. In the two other World Cup regattas he achieved a third and a second place in a double scull. At the season finale, he won the bronze medal at the 2014 World Championships together with James McRae. A year later, McRae and Belonogoff finished fifth at the 2015 World Championships . At these world championships, David Crawshay , Karsten Forsterling , Cameron Girdlestone and David Watts received silver behind the German boat in a quad scull . In 2016 the double foursome, which was newly composed with Forsterling, Belonogoff, Girdlestone and McRae, won the World Cup regattas in Lucerne and Posen. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , the Australians received the silver medal behind the German boat.
