Alexander Buchmann (born January 24, 1982 in Trondheim / Norway ) is a former Norwegian handball player . His body length is 1.89 m.
Buchmann, who last played for the French club US Ivry HB and ran for the Norwegian men's national handball team, was mostly used on the back center .
Alexander Buchmann played in his youth for Astor, Byåsen Håndball Elite, Sjetne and in the 1999/2000 season for the reserves of SG Flensburg-Handewitt . On his return to Norway, he joined the first division club Heimdal Håndballklubb and quickly became the top scorer and leading player. In summer 2003 he made his second attempt in Germany, but this time in the first team of SG Flensburg-Handewitt. However, after Glenn Solberg and Christian Berge, he was only the third choice in the playmaker position, so that he was loaned to the Danish club Aarhus GF from November and finally sold to the French club US Ivry HB in January . As a replacement for Buchmann, Flensburg signed Kjetil Strand . After a year and a half at the Paris suburban club, Buchmann decided to move to BM Altea in the Spanish ASOBAL league . When his club showed financial problems in spring 2007, Buchmann initially loaned himself to Toulouse Union HB . After Altea's license return, he returned to US Ivry HB in the summer of 2007. There he scored 71 goals in only 9 league games, but tore the Achilles tendon in his left foot in the Champions League home game against Astrakhan , so he was out for the rest of the season. At the end of 2008 he bought himself out of the contract.
Alexander Buchmann has so far played 61 international matches for the Norwegian men's national handball team . Due to bad experiences with previous youth selection coaches, he hesitated for a long time to even run for his country. It wasn't until he was 23 that he finally made his debut. With Norway he participated in the 2006 European Men's Handball Championship and at the World Handball Championship for Men 2007 in Germany in part, but resigned both times been made after the first round and finished in the latter at the end of the 13th. For the handball European championship 2008 in Norway he did not take part due to injury.
Buchmann is an athlete ambassador for the development aid organization Right to Play .
