Alexander Gleichmann von Oven (born April 15, 1879 in Hamburg ; † September 3, 1969 ) was a German rower .

biography

At the Olympic Games in 1900 , the first Olympic rowing competitions were held on the Seine in Paris. The Germania Ruder-Club from Hamburg sent an eight, the crew consisted of: Gustav Goßler , Oskar Goßler , Ernst Jencquel , Edgar Katzenstein , Walther Katzenstein , Theodor Laurezzari , Waldemar Tietgens and Arthur Warncke , as well as Alexander Gleichmann von Oven as helmsman. The crew reached the final, for this run Oven's helmsman was replaced by a younger and 45 pound lighter stranger. The German eighth finished the race last and thus finished fourth.

Gleichmann von Oven was the owner of the import and export company Gleichmann & Co. and the Merkur publishing house.
