Alexander Hohlrieder

Alexander Hohlrieder (born August 30, 1970 in Bludenz , Vorarlberg ) is a former Austrian ski jumper , Nordic combined athlete and cyclist .

Life

Athletic career

He received his athletic training at the Neustift ski school and the Stams ski school . His career started out very promising. In only 4 years he established himself nationally and in 1985 in Mayrhofen he became the Austrian student champion in Nordic combined. His strength has always been in ski jumping, which he was able to underpin nationally (Austria Cup) and internationally (Coupe Berauer).

Hohlrieder had a serious accident on June 18, 1986 at the age of 15 on the way to a training competition with a minibus from the Stams ski school. The result was paraplegia . Years of rehabilitation followed. He began to play wheelchair tennis , switched to mountain bike in 1997 and then to racing bike and began cycling for the disabled in 2005, where he was internationally successful and won numerous medals. In 2006 he was named Disabled Sportsman of the Year.

Private

Hohlrieder has been in a relationship with the technical chemist Stephanie Egger since 2001 and has two children with her. Professionally, he completed an apprenticeship as a banker and then worked in his parents' company. He also learned the craft of glazier and passed the master's examination. He is also the ski jumping trainer at KSC and head coach at Paracycling Team Austria.

He is now a qualified mental coach .

  • 2009: Bogongio (I) - 4th place individual time trial, 5th place street
  • Multiple Austrian champion - road, EZF, mountain
  • 2009: Klagenfurt - Ironman - 1st place Paralympic (10:15 - then world record)
  • 2009: St. Pölten - Halfironman - 1st place Paralympic (05:15)
  • 2009: Linz - Halfironman - 1st place Paralympic (04:45)
