Alexander II. Zabinas
Alexander II. Zabinas († 123 BC ) was an anti-king in the Seleucid Empire in the 120s BC. Chr.
Alexander, the son of a merchant, was raised as a young man by the Egyptian king Ptolemy VIII against Demetrios II as king of the Seleucid Empire. Ptolemy, who at that time was in exile in Cyprus and waged a civil war against his sister wife Cleopatra II , passed him off as the adopted son of Antiochus VII, who had recently fallen in the fight against the Parthians , or as the son of Alexander I Balas .
With Egyptian support, Alexander took over in 129/128 BC. The power in Antiocheia , Apamea and other Syrian cities. 125 BC At Damascus he defeated Demetrios II., Who was murdered a little later. Shortly afterwards, however, Alexander lost the support of Ptolemy, who had come to an understanding with Cleopatra. He now tried to finance his troops with funds from the temple property of the Temple of Zeus at Antiochia, and was then expelled from the city. Alexander was caught on the run and probably 123 BC. Executed by Demetrios' son and successor Antiochus VIII. Grypus .
