Alexander Ioffe

Alexander Dawidowitsch Ioffe (born July 28, 1938 ) is a Soviet - Israeli mathematician and engineer. He is a professor emeritus of mathematics at the Technion in Haifa .

Life

Ioffe studied at the Moscow State Aviation Institute until 1961 . He then studied mathematics at Moscow State University until 1966 and received his doctorate in 1967 at the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute in Moscow .

From 1961 to 1972 he worked at the Moscow Research and Development Institute for Radio Industry, and from 1969 to 1972 at the Moscow State University. In 1972 Ioffe became an assistant professor at the Moscow Road Construction Institute. However, he lost his teaching post there in 1976 when he applied for emigration to Israel for himself and his family. In January 1988 the family was finally allowed to emigrate. Ioffe was now professor of mathematics from 1988 to 2006. During his career he published more than 130 publications.

2006 awarded him the Keio University , the honorary doctorate . Ioffe is married and has two children. His son Dima is also a professor of mathematics.
