Alexander Nikolajewitsch Ivanov (born January 10, 1951 in Suntar Raion , Yakut ASSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Soviet wrestler and silver medalist at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal in free style flyweight.

Career

Alexander Ivanov, a Russian from Yakutia , began in 1963 with the rings . In Alma-Ata , Kazakhstan , the coaches Dimitri Korkin and Fjodor Matuschak led him into the world's free style elite. Because of the unusually strong competition that prevailed among wrestlers in the former Soviet Union, it was not until 1976 before Alexander came to his first appearance at an international championship. This was the same as the Olympic Games in Montreal . Alexander was able to convince there straight away. He won six fights and was only defeated in the final to the multiple Japanese world champion Yūji Takada, who was then considered unbeatable . He was rewarded with the silver medal for his good performance .

Alexander was also able to convince at the European Championships in Bursa in 1977 . He won four fights here, but lost again in the final, this time to the German Hartmut Reich from Jena . At the world championship of the same year in Lausanne, Alexander lost again in his second fight against Yuji Takada and in his third fight also the Bulgarian Nermedin Selimow , whom he had defeated shortly before at a tournament in Tbilisi . He therefore had to make do with 10th place.

The great times of the Beloglasov brothers (Anatoli and Sergei) began in the Soviet Union in 1978. Alexander Ivanov was therefore no longer used in any international championships.
