Alexander Reumont

Alexander Reumont (born September 26, 1817 in Aachen ; † July 8, 1887 there ) was a German spa doctor ( balneologist ).

Life

Alexander Reumont studied medicine at the universities of Bonn and Berlin and received his doctorate at the latter on December 11, 1843. After traveling to Paris , London and Vienna , he settled in Aachen in 1845 as a doctor and surgeon. From 1848 to 1853 he worked at the private insane asylum and nursing home in Endenich near Bonn . He then worked as a doctor and spa doctor in Aachen until his death and was later also a secret medical adviser . In addition to two larger treatises on syphilis , his work is in the field of balneotherapy, especially on the Aachen thermal springs .

Reumont was, among other things, a member of the Academy of Charitable Sciences in Erfurt , the Lower Rhine Society for Natural Science and Medicine in Bonn and the Hufeland Medical-Surgical Society in Berlin. On December 23, 1876 he was admitted to the Leopoldina . In Aachen, Reumont had been a member of Club Aachener Casino since 1858 .

family

Alexander Reumonts comes from the Reumont family, who immigrated from Belgium to Aachen in the 18th century. His parents were the physician and spa doctor Gerhard Reumont (1765–1828) and Lambertine Kraussen (1786–1850), his brother the historian and diplomat Alfred von Reumont (1808–1887). On March 1, 1862, he married Maria Emmeline Jacobina Claudina Fonck (1841–1915) in Cologne. He and her had six children: Joseph Maria Reumont (* 1863), Alfred von Reumont (1863–1942), Maria Elvire Reumont (* 1864), Maria Alexandrine Reumont (* 1865), Franz Reumont (1867–1926) and Alexander Reumont (1868-1873).

Alexander Reumont found his final resting place in the family crypt in Aachen's Ostfriedhof .
