Alfred von Reumont (born March 15, 1863 in Aachen ; † July 30, 1942 in Fahr (Neuwied) ) was a German administrative officer and district administrator in the Erkelenz district .

Alfred Reumont was the son of the secret medical councilor Alexander Reumont (1817-1887) and Maria Anna Claudia Fonck (1841-1915) as well as the nephew of the historian and diplomat Alfred von Reumont and the grandson of the spa doctor Gerhard Reumont .

On May 1, 1897, Alfred von Reumont married Alexandra von Forckenbeck (1877–1953), a granddaughter of the physician and politician August Sträter . The couple had four sons and one daughter. His son Alfred von Reumont later became mayor of Honnef and a colonel in the high command of the Wehrmacht .

Live and act

Alfred Reumont attended the Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium , which he left with the Abitur in 1881. He studied law at the universities in Bonn, Freiburg im Breisgau and Berlin. Since 1881 he was a member of the Corps Palatia Bonn . After graduating, he initially worked as a government trainee in Aachen and Frankfurt an der Oder.

He then did his military service in Berlin with the 1st Guard Dragoons Regiment, he became a reserve officer in the Hussar Regiment "King Humbert of Italy" (1st Kurhessisches) No. 13 , and he received his patent as Rittmeister of the Reserve in June 1914.

From 1891 to 1895 he was employed as a government assessor in Potsdam before he then took over the office of district administrator in the Erkelenz district until his retirement in 1929. In addition, he sat from 1913 to 1918 as a member of the Prussian provincial parliament .

He devoted himself intensively to promoting agriculture in his district. In 1896 he was director of the local department of the Agricultural Association for Rhine Prussia and section director for rural construction. He initiated the founding of the agricultural school - the school building was right next to the district office - and a district walking school for girls. He founded a horse breeding association, a poultry breeding association and a pig cooperative for the Erkelenz district.

Alfred von Reumont was chairman of the Red Cross branch. For years he was concerned with the project of a circular path between Brüggen , Erkelenz and Jülich . Finally decided in 1912, construction was prevented by the First World War . He was co-founder and chairman of the Erkelenz History and Antiquity Association and the Museum Association.

After his retirement on April 1, 1928, he held his office on a temporary basis for another year. Then he moved back to his hometown Aachen. Here he had been a member of Club Aachener Casino since 1895 and later also of the Aachen Recreation Society. For this he wrote the commemorative publication for the 100th anniversary of the society in 1937.

District Administrator von Reumont died on December 30, 1932 in Fahr am Rhein and found his final resting place in the family grave at Aachen's East Cemetery .

Honors

For his significant services in office, Reumont was raised to the Prussian nobility on May 22, 1911. In 1912 he was appointed a secret councilor. On June 27, 1926 he became an honorary citizen of the city of Erkelenz . On the 50th anniversary of his service, he received the 2nd class decoration from the Red Cross. Around 1950 a street in the center of Erkelenz was renamed "Von-Reumont-Straße" after him.
