Werner Müller (District Administrator)

Werner Müller (born February 10, 1900 in Frankfurt am Main ; † May 5, 1982 in Düsseldorf ) was a German mechanical engineer , managing director, prisoner of the Nazi regime and district administrator of the Erkelenz district .

Life

Werner Müller grew up in Kassel , where he attended high school. He studied mechanical engineering at the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences (Technikum) in Saxony , where he graduated as a mechanical engineer . Before 1922 he was employed by the Dorstener Maschinenfabrik und Eisengießerei before he worked as a designer, partner and technical director of Alfred Wirth & Co. KG (popularly known as Bohr ) in Erkelenz from 1922 to 1965 . Werner Müller was married and had one child. After leaving, he moved to Düsseldorf.

Detention

During the Second World War , Werner Müller was denounced in 1943 when he made negative comments to employees about the course of the war. He was arrested on August 23, 1943 and sentenced to death by the People's Court on October 14, 1943 for degrading military strength and pardoned to life imprisonment in February 1944. Werner Müller, with his knowledge of the oil industry, was considered important to the war effort. He was imprisoned in Brandenburg-Görden prison, where he was liberated by the Soviet army. He returned to Erkelenz to rebuild the drilling rig factory.

The first district council of the district of Erkelenz , whose forty members had been appointed by the British military government , elected Werner Müller as district administrator at the first meeting on February 12, 1946. He was the successor of Jack Schiefer , the last full-time district administrator and first district administrator after 1945. Werner Müller became the first honorary incumbent in the history of the district. After the first general election to the district assembly had taken place on October 30, 1946, he renounced another term because he wanted to devote himself to rebuilding the factory. His term of office ended on November 4th. Werner Müller became a member of the FDP .

After the war he was also first vice-president of the Aachen Chamber of Commerce and Industry . He resigned from this office in 1947. In the same year he became chairman of the supervisory board of the West German light and power plants Erkelenz (WLK), to which he belonged until 1973. After his departure, he was made honorary chairman.
