Alfred von Reumont (officer)

Alfred Gustav Hubertus Maria von Reumont (born December 22, 1898 in Erkelenz , † November 1, 1984 in Aachen ) was a German officer in the Wehrmacht and a social judge.

Life

The son of District Administrator Alfred von Reumont (1863–1942) and Alexandra von Forckenbeck (1877–1953) joined the German Army as a volunteer on July 2, 1916 after attending grammar school during the First World War . He began his career as a flag junior in the Westphalian Uhlan Regiment No. 5 and was promoted to lieutenant on April 28, 1917 . After the end of the war, Reumont was accepted into the provisional Reichswehr and appointed as adjutant to the State Secretary for demobilization in the Prussian War Ministry .

On March 31, 1921, he resigned from the Reichswehr, studied law and began a career in civil service. After working as a government trainee and assessor and completing his doctorate, Reumont was elected mayor of the city of Honnef from 1929 to 1933 .

On July 15, 1934, Reumont was reactivated with the rank of captain and took over as chief of a company in Rifle Regiment 4. After four years in this position, on January 10, 1938, he was first transferred to the Army Department of the General Army Office in the Army High Command (OKH ) and on May 1, 1939, transferred to the General Department of the General Wehrmacht Office of the High Command of the Wehrmacht (OKW), where he was promoted to Major on February 1, 1940 . On November 8, 1942, he was transferred to the 9th Panzer Division and on November 26th he transferred command of the 11th Panzer Grenadier Regiment. During a deployment of this unit on the Eastern Front as part of the Citadel Company , Reumont was wounded and arrived in May 1943 to the hospital . On October 1, 1943, he was ordered back to the OKW as head of the prisoner-of-war system, promoted to colonel on November 1, and appointed head of the OKW's general department on October 1, 1944. After the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht Reumont came with parts of the High Command on May 23, 1945 near Flensburg in the local special area Mürwik in British internment , from which he was released on February 27 1946th

After his release from captivity, Reumont returned to Honnef, where he had applied for the post of city director. Instead, he headed the municipal spa administration there from October 1, 1947 as the spa director. Released from his employment, he was then a member of the management board of Bad Honnef AG from October 1948 to September 1950 . Subsequently, Reumont settled in the Aachen area. There he first found employment in the insurance industry, then as a member of the government in Aachen and finally from January 1, 1954 until his retirement as a social judge at the social court in Cologne, where he took over a ruling chamber in the Aachen branch. On April 25, 1963, he joined the Aachener Casino Club .

Reumont was married to Ruth von Drenkmann (1898–1995), a daughter of the secret Chief Finance Councilor Edwin von Drenkmann, junior and granddaughter of the Crown Syndicate Edwin von Drenkmann , senior and sister of Günter von Drenkmann , President of the Supreme Court , who was murdered by the June 2nd movement . The couple had a daughter and sons Gerhard Alfred von Reumont (* 1929), who became known as a professor of mechanical engineering in 1977 and 1979 with two patents that improved the sound of musical instruments through so-called "vibration dampening" and Hubertus von Reumont ( * 1931), later chief executive of the regional association of Bavarian retailers.

Alfred von Reumont died on November 1st, 1984 and found his final resting place in the family grave at Aachen's Ostfriedhof .
