Alexander Stangl

Alexander Stangl (born February 26, 1899 in Pöttsching , † March 20, 1946 in Eisenstadt ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and metal worker. Stangl represented the SPÖ from 1945 to 1946 in the Burgenland state parliament .

Life

Stangl was born as the son of factory worker Michael Stangl from Pöttsching. He attended elementary school in Pöttsching and then worked as a road worker.

Stangl was married and died in a traffic accident in 1946.

politics

From 1922 he was active as a functionary and chairman of the Socialist Workers' Youth in Pöttsching and from 1924 was district manager. In 1930 he was a founding member of the local group of friends of nature , between 1931 and 1934 he was the local party leader of the Social Democratic Party. In addition, from 1933 he was a member of the state party executive. After the Social Democratic Party was banned, Stangl was illegally active in politics from 1934 and was imprisoned for a few months in 1934. In 1935 he was sentenced to several years of political imprisonment by the District Court of Wiener Neustadt . He then served from 1939 to 1945 in World War II , where he was captured by the Soviets . After the Second World War, Stangl was the first regional party leader of the SPÖ from 1945 to 1946 and also a member of the federal party executive. Between 1945 and 1946 he held the office of mayor of Pöttsching and represented the SPÖ between December 13, 1945 and March 20, 1946 in the Burgenland state parliament.
