Alexander Völker (theologian)

Alexander Völker (born November 1, 1934 in Spangenberg ; † December 7, 2017 ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and liturgist . He was the author and editor of numerous publications on the practice of worship .

Life

After studying Protestant theology in Marburg and Heidelberg , he was ordained in Hofgeismar on September 17, 1961 . He took up his first pastor's position in Windecken in Hesse . Since 1963 he was a member of the Evangelical Michael Brotherhood . In 1968 he moved to the Westphalian regional church and became pastor in Buchholz , in 1976 pastor and director of studies at the College for Church Music of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia in Herford . From 1980 until his retirement in 1997 he was superintendent of the Minden church district .

Völker became editor in 1974 and co-editor of the yearbook for liturgy and hymnology in 1977 , for which he wrote numerous articles. From 1991 to 2001 he was chairman of the Lutheran Liturgical Conference . Until 2005 he taught liturgy and hymnology at the church music college in Herford and was also its deputy director. He was a contributing member of the Societas Liturgica .
