Franz Karl Schuler

Franz Karl Schuler (born January 1, 1817 in Schwyz ; † March 2, 1854 there ) was a Swiss politician . From 1848 to 1852 he was a member of the National Council, then the Government Council of the Canton of Schwyz .

biography

The son of a salt director attended high schools in Schwyz and Lucerne . After language stays in Lausanne and Aubonne to learn French , he studied law at the universities of Zurich and Heidelberg . From 1839 Schuler worked as a teacher at the secondary school in Schwyz. He represented moderate liberal views and rejected the special union of Catholic-Conservative cantons. Nevertheless he was secretary of the Schwyz Military Commission during the Sonderbund War in 1847 .

After Schwyz surrendered in 1848, Schuler was a member of the Constitutional Council, which drafted a new cantonal constitution. In the same year he was elected to the Cantonal Council, and he also took up work as a criminal judge. In October 1848 he ran successfully in the first national council elections . He resigned this and other mandates after the Grand Council had elected him to the cantonal government. During his brief tenure as a member of the government, he headed the Department of Poor and Guardianship.
