Alexander of Courland
Prince Alexander of Courland (* October 18, 1658 , † June 28, 1686 ), called "The One-armed", was a brother of the Duke of Courland , Frederick II Casimir , from the Kettler dynasty .
He was the youngest son of Jakob Kettler , (1610–1682) Duke of Courland and his wife Luise Charlotte of Brandenburg (1617–1676), the eldest daughter of Elector Georg Wilhelm of Brandenburg .
As a colonel, he was in charge of the newly formed Kurland on foot regiment in Kurbrandenburg services, which then took part in the Great Turkish War . On June 26, 1686, Alexander was fatally wounded during the second siege of Ofen (now Budapest ) and died on the return transport to Vienna near Sopron .
