Lady Alexandra Naldera Curzon CBE (born March 20, 1904 in India , † November 7, 1995 at Kedleston Hall in Derby ) was a British noblewoman .

Life

Alexandra Naldera was the youngest daughter of three children of the British politician and Viceroy of India George Curzon, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston (1859-1925), and his first wife to the American Mary Victoria Head (1870-1906). Her godmother was Queen Alexandra . She attended the renowned Swiss boarding school Le Rosey .

In 1922 Lady Alexandra made her debut and was introduced to London society. At a ball she met the Prince and later Duke of Kent George Edward (1902-1942), fourth son of King George V and Queen Mary , know. Lady Alexandra was already traded as the future wife of the Prince - but she married Sir Edward Dudley Metcalfe on July 21, 1925 in London. The relationship resulted in three children, son David and twin daughters Linda and Davina. The couple had an open relationship , especially in the 1930s . The affairs of Lady Metcalfe with her brother-in-law Sir Oswald Ernald Mosley, 6th Baronet , Edward Frederick Lindley Wood, 1st Earl of Halifax , Douglas Fairbanks and with the Italian ambassador Dino Grandi are well known . The marriage in 1955 divorced .

Together with her husband, Lady Baba, as she was called in India , belonged to the close circle of friends of the Prince of Wales and later King Edward VIII. In 1937 she was maid of honor at the wedding of the Duke of Windsor with the American Wallis Simpson, who was divorced twice at Château de Cande in Tours , France .

During the Second World War , she and her older sister Mary Irene organized the care of the wounded soldiers, deportations to children’s home and lectures. For her work at the children's charity Save the Children , she was appointed Commander of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in 1975 . In 1980, Lady Alexandra portrayed the life of former King Edward VIII and his wife in the 7-part TV series Edward and Mrs Simpson .
