Alexandra Sergejewna Merkulowa ( Russian Александра Сергеевна Меркулова ; born November 25, 1995 in Moscow ) is a former Russian rhythmic gymnast .
Career
In 2010 Merkulova won a gold medal in singles at the Singapore Youth Olympic Games . In the same year she became European Junior Champion in Bremen.
From 2009 to 2014 she was a member of the Russian team.
At the 2011 World Championships in Pérols , a suburb of Montpellier , Merkulova was world champion (all-around team) together with Darja Kondakowa , Evgenija Kanajewa and Darja Dmitrijewa . At the European Championships in 2012 in Nizhny Novgorod , she won a silver medal in the individual all-around competition behind her compatriot Yevgenia Kanajewa .
In 2010 she became Russian champion. She was unable to take part in the 2012 Olympic Games due to an injury, and the future silver medalist Darya Dmitrieva took her place .
In 2015 Merkulova ended her sporting career and has been coaching the Russian youth team ever since.
Private
Merkulova goes to church regularly and describes himself as a religious person. She is married to the ice hockey player Igor Oshiganov . Merkulova has two sisters, Olga and Natalja, and two brothers, Sawwa and Wassilij.
