Alexandre Adandé

Alexandre Sènou Adandé (born May 7, 1912 , according to other information March 12, 1913 , in Porto-Novo , French Dahomey , † April 8, 1993 in Cotonou , Benin ) was a politician of the Dahomey Republic , who was minister several times.

Life

Alexandre Adandé completed his studies and between 1936 and 1960 was head of the department of ethnography of the Institute Fondamental d'Afrique Noire , which in 1957 became part of the newly founded University of Dakar . During this time between 1946 and 1947 he worked at the Ethnological Institute (Institut d'Ethnologie) of the University of Paris and at the same time the École du Louvre . In January 1957 he became general secretary of the Convention Africaine (CAf) party founded by Léopold Sédar Senghor and held this function until the party was dissolved in March 1958. After the autonomy of the previous colony of French Dahomey on December 4, 1958, he was appointed to the provisional Government of Sourou-Migan Apithy Minister of Agriculture and was subsequently a delegate to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) from 1959 to 1963 .

In 1960, Abandé was appointed by Coutoucou Hubert Maga , who had been the first president of the now independent Republic of Dahomey since August 1, 1960, as finance minister in its government. As part of a government reshuffle, he then held the post of Minister for Rural Development from 1962 to 1963. Later he was Minister of Justice in the government of Sourou-Migan Apithy, who was president from January 25, 1964 until his overthrow by Christophe Soglo on November 27, 1965. In 1967 he became Chief Agricultural Advisor and Representative of the Republic of Dahomey at the FAO.

The Musée ethnographique Alexandre-Sénou-Adandé de Porto-Novo , which was founded in 1962 and specializes in the money of the ethnic group , was named in his honor .
