Alexandre Ganoczy (actually: Sándor Gánóczy; born December 12, 1928 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian Catholic theologian and dogmatist who worked as a university teacher in Germany and France. He lives in Dauphin , Alpes-de-Haute-Provence .

Life

Sándor Gánóczy studied theology in Budapest, Paris and Rome and was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Esztergom in 1953, where he then worked for nine years as a worker and student chaplain. He received his PhD from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1963 . From 1967 he taught at the Department of Dogmatics at the University of Münster . In 1969 he received his doctorate in philosophy from the Sorbonne . In 1972 he was given the chair for dogmatics in Würzburg , which he held until his retirement in 1996, and was also a professor at the Institut Catholique de Paris .

From 1978 to 1990 Ganoczy was a member of the Ecumenical Working Group of Protestant and Catholic Theologians in Germany and acted as an advisor in the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity .

In his theology of creation he seeks a dialogue with the natural sciences and incorporates knowledge from the theory of relativity, quantum mechanics, evolutionary theory and chaos research into his considerations.

Ganoczy was first known through his work on John Calvin .

He has published a large number of books, magazine articles and reviews in Germany, France, Hungary and also in English-speaking countries. Two festival publications were dedicated to him, and he was invited to participate in various festival publications, including the one for his Regensburg colleague Ratzinger on the occasion of his sixtieth.
