Alexandru Paşcanu

Alexandru Paşcanu (born May 3, 1920 in Bucharest ; † July 6, 1989 there ) was a Romanian composer and music teacher.

Paşcanu studied from 1938 to 1946 at the Academia Regală de Muzică și Artă Dramatică with Marțian Negrea , Dimitrie Cuclin , Constantin Brăiloiu and Ionel Perlea . From 1952 he held a chair for music theory and solfège and in 1966 he became professor for harmony. In addition to other music theory and musicological writings, he wrote a two-volume Tratat de armonie , which appeared in several editions.

In addition to symphonic works such as the Poemul Carpaților , Marea Neagră , the Toccata simfonica and a ballad for clarinet and orchestra, Paşcanu composed chamber music and numerous choral works.
