Dimitrie Cuclin
Dimitrie Cuclin (born March 24th July / April 5th 1885 greg. In Galați ; † February 7th 1978 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian composer .
Cuclin studied composition at the Bucharest Conservatory with Alfonso Castaldi and in Paris with Charles-Marie Widor and Vincent d'Indy . From 1918 he taught himself at the Bucharest Conservatory, from 1919 to 1922 as a professor. From 1922 to 1930 he worked as a violin teacher in New York City . In 1930 he returned to Bucharest and taught at the Conservatory until 1948 as a professor of composition, harmony and counterpoint. With his philosophical and music-aesthetic writings in the tradition of idealism , he came into conflict with the communist regime and was sentenced to forced labor on the Danube-Black Sea Canal from 1950 to 1952 .
He composed six operas , twenty symphonies (1910–1972), vocal symphonic works, orchestral, choral, chamber, piano, violin music and songs .
