Alfonso Castaldi

Alfonso Castaldi (born April 23, 1874 in Maddaloni , Italy; † August 6, 1942 in Bucharest , Romania ) was an Italian - Romanian composer , conductor and music teacher .

Castaldi has to 1883 in his home lessons with Michele Serino and Luigi Picillo and then studied at the Conservatory of Naples harmony, counterpoint and composition with Paolo Serrao , Francesco Cilea and Umberto Giordano .

From 1896 to 1901 he taught music theory, mandolin, guitar and violin in Galați . From 1904 to 1940 he was professor of harmony, counterpoint, orchestration and composition at the Bucharest Conservatory . In addition, he was music inspector at the Ministry of Culture from 1925 to 1929.

In 1914 Castaldi founded the Bucharest Youth Symphony Orchestra, and in 1920 he was one of the founding members of the Romanian Composers' Union. He was awarded the Music Prize of the Ministry of Religion and Art in 1928 and the National Prize for Music in 1929.

He was also active as a publicist and published a volume of poetry in Naples in 1892.
