Alexei Nikititsch Volkonsky ( Russian : Алексей Никитич Волконский; * 1720 - April 21, 1781 ) was a major general in the Imperial Russian Army . Through an inheritance, he and his brother became a large landowner .

Military background

His military training began in the 1st Cadet Corps in Saint Petersburg , which he completed in 1738 with the rank of ensign . He was a participant in the Seven Years' War from 1735 to 1739 and after Catherine II came to power he was accepted as a lieutenant colonel in the Ukrainian regiment and promoted to colonel . 1762 he was promoted to major general on November 30th .

Origin and family

Knes AN Wolkonski came from the ancient Russian Rurik family of Volkonsky . His father was the former court jester of Anna Ivanovna and later Russian captain Nikita Fedorowitsch Volkonsky († 1740), who was married to Agrafena Petrovna. Alexei Nikititsch and his older brother Mikhail Nikititsch Volkonsky (1713–1788) were raised in Courland by their grandfather Alexei Petrovich Bestuschew-Ryumin . Alexei Nikititsch married Margarita Rodinovna Kosheleva († 1790), their descendants were:

  • Mikhail Alexeijewitsch Volkonsky († 1786), brigadier
  • Katharina Alexeijewna Volkonsky (1754–1829) ⚭ Alexei Ivanovich Mussin-Pushkin (1744–1817)
  • Nikolai Alexeijewitsch Volkonsky (1757–1834), Lieutenant General
  • Petr Alexeijewitsch Volkonsky (1759–1827), brigadier
