Ernesto Alexis Vega Rojas (born November 25, 1997 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican football player who has been under contract with the first division club Deportivo Guadalajara since January 2019 . The striker joined the Mexican national team in March 2019 .

Club career

Deportivo Toluca

Vega started playing football in 2009 in the youth of the UNAM Pumas . In 2011 he moved to the youth department of Deportivo Toluca , where he played in various junior selections. After showing strong performances in the U20 team, coach José Saturnino Cardozo promoted him to the first team during the 2015/16 season . On February 27, 2016, the 18-year-old made his debut in the top Mexican division in a 1-0 home defeat by CF Pachuca when he came on as a substitute for Peruvian Christian Cueva in the second half . On April 6, he scored for the first time for Diablos Rojos in the 2-1 home win against LDU Quito in the Copa Libertadores 2016 . Ten days later he scored his first two league goals in a 4-2 home win against CD Veracruz and also provided an assist. In his first season 2015/16 he was used in ten league games. In the following Apertura in 2016 he established himself in the starting lineup and scored one goal in 12 games and prepared two more goals. On November 15, 2016, he sustained a severe anterior cruciate ligament injury and was out for six months. He also missed the preparation for the 2017/18 season due to a knee injury and did not return to the field until October 2017. He was used in 17 league games this season, in which he scored three times. In Apertura 2018 he was an undisputed regular player and netted six times in 19 league games.

Deportivo Guadalajara

On December 8, 2018, the move from Vegas to Deportivo Guadalajara was announced for a transfer fee of nine million euros. This made it the Chivas' most expensive purchase . He made his first appearance on January 6, 2019 in a 2-0 home win against Club Tijuana . On February 17, 2019 (7th matchday of Clausura), he scored all three of his team's goals in a 3-0 home win against local rivals Atlas Guadalajara . In 16 appearances in the Clausura 2019 , the striker scored four goals. In the 2019/20 season, which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic , he scored five times in 24 league appearances.

National team

On March 26, 2019, Alexis Vega made his debut in a 4-2 win in a friendly against Paraguay for the Mexican national team when he came on for Chicharito in the 78th minute . Vega also took part in the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup with Mexico , where he made short appearances in two group matches. In the 7-0 win in the first group game against Cuba , he scored his first international goal just two minutes after being substituted on in the 72nd minute of the game. Vega followed the 1-0 final against the USA from the bench.
