Alfalfa is an unincorporated community in Deschutes County , Oregon in the United States and is located in the high desert about 16 miles east of the city of Bend .

Alfalfa was named after the main crop there, alfalfa . Between 1912 and 1922, alfalfa had its own post office. Today around 400 families live in the area. The community school was founded in 1911 and closed in 1987, and alfalfa students have attended Redmond schools ever since .
