Alfons Übelhör

Alfons Übelhör (born June 29, 1905 in Vienna ; † April 12, 1967 in Vienna ) was an Austrian radio manager and politician.

After completing his law degree, Übelhör worked as a public educator and devoted himself to radio early on. The CV member ( Catholic Academic Association Norica Vienna ) rose to Oskar Czeija's management team with Rudolf Henz and Arthur Schuschnigg and was most recently a liaison between broadcasting ( RAVAG ) and the Vaterländische Front during the period of the corporate state . During the Nazi regime, the trainee lawyer joined a resistance group, the “ Greater Austrian Freedom Movement ”, and was therefore imprisoned from 1940 to 1942. From 1945 to 1949 he headed the science department of the Austrian radio . From 1949 to 1954, Übelhör was a member of the Austrian Federal Council for the ÖVP and from 1958 to 1967 director of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation. Übelhör was considered to be one of the representatives of the party-politically dominated media system in Austria after 1945. He was also Vice President of the Vienna Urania .
