Alfons and Aloys Kontarsky formed a German piano duo.

The brothers Aloys Kontarsky (1931–2017) and Alfons Kontarsky (1932–2010) formed a piano duo from their youth . Together with their younger brother Bernhard Kontarsky , they occasionally played three pianos.

From 1955 to 1957 the duo studied with Eduard Erdmann in Hamburg . They then gave concerts in Western Europe and performed at the Donaueschinger Musiktage , the Holland Festival and the Berliner Festwochen . From 1966 the duo performed annually in the United States. The brothers also toured the Middle East, South Africa, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and China. World famous they were recordings of new music with its record label , the German Grammophon was. The joint performances ended in 1983 after Aloys Kontarsky suffered two strokes and had to give up his concert activities.

Milko Kelemen , Bernd Alois Zimmermann , Henri Pousseur , Kazimierz Serocki , Sylvano Bussotti and Earle Brown dedicated works to the duo. Luciano Berio , Mauricio Kagel , Karlheinz Stockhausen and Luis de Pablo owe him first performances . The students include York Höller and Steffen Schleiermacher .
