Alfonso Visconti CO (* 1552 in Milan , † September 19, 1608 in Macerata ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

Church career

Alfonso Visconti was ordained priest in 1575 at the age of 23, and two years later he joined the Oratory of St. Filippo Neri . From February 8, 1591 to September 10, 1601 he was Bishop of Cervia .

Pope Clement VIII elevated him to cardinal dignity in the consistory of March 3, 1599 . Then he received from March 7, 1599 to January 24, 1600 as cardinal priest the titular church of San Giovanni a Porta Latina , from January 24, 1600 until his death in 1608 he was cardinal priest of San Sisto . From September 10, 1601 until his death, Alfonso Visconti also served as Archbishop of Spoleto and from 1604 to 1607 as Cardinal Protector for the Austrian hereditary lands.

Cardinal Visconti was a participant in the two conclaves of March 1605 and May 1605 .

He died in Macerata and was buried in the Basilica of Loreto .
