Alfred Abegg , also Albert Ab Egg (born August 30, 1905 in Altdorf , † July 23, 2002 in Basel ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician ( CVP ).

Abegg attended high school in Chur , Disentis and Engelberg . He completed a degree in both rights at the University of Basel and earned his doctorate in 1931 . From 1932 to 1942 he was the substitute for the criminal court clerk. After that he was extraordinary examining magistrate until 1945 and full examining magistrate from 1945 until 1958 . From 1958 to 1962 he was president of the criminal court. In 1960 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt , of which he was a member until 1962.

Abegg prevailed as a candidate in the government council election in 1962 against Albin Breitenmoser , the official candidate of the then Catholic and Christian-Social People's Party . In the government council, of which he was a member until 1972, he headed the justice department and was involved in the revision of the Basel Code of Criminal Procedure and the introduction of women's rights to vote and suffrage in cantonal affairs.

He was catholic . His grave is in the Hörnli cemetery in Riehen .
