Alfred Breitenstein

Alfred Eduard Breitenstein (born April 18, 1828 in Düsseldorf ; † November 1, 1853 there ) was a German landscape and genre painter from the Düsseldorf School . The Dutch painter Carl August Breitenstein was his nephew.

Life

Breitenstein, one of six children of the judge Heinrich Wilhelm Maria Breitenstein (1786–1832) and his wife Arnoldina Walburga Gabriele, née Fuchs (1797–1866), studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1843 to 1850/1851 . There were Theodor Hildebrandt and Karl Ferdinand Sohn his teachers. The Düsseldorf study time was interrupted for a short time by a stay at the Städel Institute in Frankfurt am Main . In Düsseldorf, where he lived until his untimely death and was mainly considered an idyllic artist , he was a member of the Malkasten artists' association .
