Alfred Fahr (born November 17, 1949 in Meersburg ) is a German pharmacist and university professor.

Life

After finishing elementary school, Alfred Fahr trained as an electrical mechanic at AEG Telefunken. He studied biology at the University of Konstanz and at Merton College in Oxford and graduated in 1978 with a diploma. He received his doctorate in 1981 in Konstanz on the subject of membrane biophysics with the title “Photocurrent kinetics of purple membrane sheets bound to planar bilayer membranes”. In 1982, the doctorate received the BYK Gulden Prize for the best doctorate. He then worked as an assistant in the field of biophysics at the Free University of Berlin . From 1986 he worked as laboratory manager at Sandoz , at the same time he completed his habilitation in 1994 at the University of Basel in pharmacy . In 1996 he co-founded the Advanced Drug Delivery Systems stock corporation in Muttenz, Switzerland . At the Marburger Aktiengesellschaft vectron therapeutics he was a founding shareholder and from 2000 to 2002 he was deputy chairman of the supervisory board.

From 1996 to 2002 Alfred Fahr was Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy at the Philipps University of Marburg and from 2002 to 2015 he was Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology at the Faculty of Biology and Pharmacy at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena . He has been visiting professor at the Chinese University of Wuhan since 2013 .

Since 1996, Alfred Fahr has been the main author of the standard work on pharmaceutical technology, "Pharmaceutical Technology", first published by Rudolf Voigt (1921–2008) . For study and work ”, the 12th edition of which has been available since 2015. The English edition of the work appears under the title "Voigt's Pharmaceutical Technology" by John Wiley & Sons , translated by Gerrit L. Scherphof , a biotechnologist from the University of Groningen .

Fahr did research in the field of gene therapy , liposomes as drug carriers and chemical evolution .

Awards

  • 1982: BYK Gulden Prize for the best doctorate
  • 2019: World Expert for Liposome. Award from Expertscape for the person who is one of the most liposome publications worldwide (top 0.1 percent)
