Alfred Kiel

Alfred Heinrich Kiel (born May 22, 1878 in Nordhausen , † April 26, 1954 in Butzbach ) was a Hessian politician ( SPD ) and former member of the state parliament of the People's State of Hesse in the Weimar Republic .

Little is known about Alfred Kiel's family. The mother's name was Auguste Kiel. Alfred Kiel, who was of Protestant denomination, was married to Therese born Ader.

After graduating from elementary school, Alfred Kiel worked as a cigar worker until 1914. From 1901 to 1914 he was a board member of various branches of the tobacco workers' association. From March 1914 to 1929 he worked as a full-time Gauleiter of the tobacco workers' association based in Giessen. There he was city councilor in Gießen from 1919 to 1925. From 1929 to 1933 he was secretary on the main board of the tobacco workers' association based in Bremen and at the same time owner of a coffee mail order business. Between 1919 and 1927 he was a member of the state parliament for three electoral terms.

After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he could not continue his political work. He was briefly imprisoned in May 1933 and August 1944.

After 1945 he was again active politically and in trade unions. From 1950 to 1951 he lived in Butzbach and was state chairman of the industrial union for the food, luxury food and catering trade in Hesse. He was a member of the district council in Friedberg . From 1947 to 1948 he was chairman of the ruling chamber for the Friedberg district and since November 1948 a deputy member of the Hessian state court .
