Alfred Kosing

Alfred Kosing (born December 15, 1928 in Wolfsdorf , East Prussia ) is a German Marxist philosopher .

Life

In the years 1944/45 Kosing took part in the Second World War as a naval helper and from April 1945 as a soldier . From 1945 to 1947 he completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer in Blankenburg (Harz) .

He joined the SED in 1946. After graduating from high school in 1948, he studied history and philosophy at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and the Humboldt University in Berlin until 1951 . From 1950 to 1953 he was assistant and lecturer at the Institute for Philosophy at Humboldt University. From 1953 to 1961 he was a lecturer in dialectical and historical materialism and from 1962 to 1964 as a professor with a teaching position at the chair for philosophy at the Institute for Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the SED (IfG) in Berlin.

Kosing received his doctorate in 1960 with the thesis "On the essence of Marxist-Leninist epistemology" at the IfG and completed his habilitation in 1964 on "The theory of the nation and the national question in Germany" at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . From 1964 to 1969 he was professor and director of the Institute for Philosophy at the philosophy faculty there.

In 1969 he moved back to the Institute for Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the SED (from 1976 Academy for Social Sciences) in Berlin, where he was Professor of Dialectical and Historical Materialism until 1990. He has been retired since 1990, lives in Turkey and works as a journalist.

Kosing worked and published a. a. on Marxist-Leninist epistemology and philosophy of science . Since 1971 he was a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR . In 1975 he received the National Prize of the GDR, 2nd class for science and technology . From 1973 to 1993 he was a member of the Institut International de Philosophie and from 1978 to 1990 a member of the executive committee of URANIA in the GDR .
