Alfred Maderno

Alfred Maderno , actually Alfred Schmidt (born October 25, 1886 in Marburg an der Drau ; † March 17, 1960 in Berlin ) was an Austro-German writer and journalist who mainly worked in Germany and only published under his pseudonym .

Life

Alfred Schmidt was born in the Lower Styrian town of Marburg an der Drau (now Maribor in Slovenia ). Here he spent his childhood and youth, attended elementary school and high school . In 1906 he passed the matriculation examination , and moved to Vienna , where he attended the University a law degree began, which he in 1913 with the promotion of Dr. jur. completed.

After the First World War, Alfred Schmidt moved to Germany and worked in various places as a freelance writer and journalist. From 1931 he headed the culture department of the Berliner Lokal-Anzeiger . During this period he turned increasingly to historical topics and noticeably adapted his style of expression to the political realities. In the war year 1942 he was mentioned as an editor with an address in Lindenstrasse in Berlin-Kreuzberg.

Soon after the Second World War, Schmidt was able to resume his journalistic activities. He wrote essays and theater reviews for the daily newspaper “ Der Morgen ”, which appeared in Berlin as an organ of the Liberal Democratic Party of Germany (LDP) from August 1945 . In 1957 he succeeded in getting a new edition of his 1933 publication, "Five Cats", for which Hans-Hermann Schlicker drew the book illustrations through the book publisher Der Morgen .

In 1960 Alfred Schmidt / Alfred Maderno died in Berlin at the age of 73.
