Alfred Marchot

Alfred Marchot (born January 31, 1861 in Liège ; † June 18, 1939 in Sint-Genesius-Rode ) was a Belgian violinist , pianist , composer and music teacher . Alfred Marchot was a close collaborator of the Belgian violinist and composer Eugène Ysaÿe .

life and work

Marchot was a student of Eugène Ysaÿe at the Liège Conservatory. In 1894 he became Ysaÿe's assistant at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels .

Marchot accompanied Ysaÿe as a pianist. He directed the string quartet that represented the Quatuor Ysaÿe when Ysaÿe was on concert tours as a soloist or member of the Quatuor Ysaÿe . From 1899, Alfred Marchot played second violin in the last phase of the Quatuor Ysaÿe .

Well-known students of Marchot include the Catalans Joan Massià and Francesc Costa , the Franco-Peruvian violinist Andrés Sás Orchassal and the Singaporean violinist Goh Soon Tioe .

Marchot was also active as a composer and wrote impressionist-romantic works such as the Nocturne pour flûte et piano ou orchester .
