Alfred Raddatz

Alfred Raddatz (born March 15, 1928 in Berlin ; † June 7, 2006 in Vienna ) was a Protestant church historian.

Life

After studying theology, art history and Christian archeology at the Humboldt University in Berlin , Raddatz received teaching positions at the University of Greifswald and the Humboldt University from 1959 . 1963 followed the habilitation in Berlin, since 1966 he worked there as a lecturer. In 1971 Raddatz was appointed to the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna , where he became the first full professor of the newly founded Institute for Church History, Christian Archeology and Church Art. In 1996 he retired .

He was a legal knight of the Order of St. John (Austrian commander).

In addition to his particular interest in church art, Raddatz was committed to the dialogue with Judaism , initially on the board of the coordination committee for Christian-Jewish cooperation in Vienna, of which he was vice-president from 1974. From 2001 to 2003 he was its President.

Alfred Raddatz was buried at the Dornbacher Friedhof in Vienna.
