Alfred Salomon (born December 27, 1910 in Dirschau , † December 19, 2006 in Bonn ) was a German Protestant pastor, author and member of the Confessing Church .

Life

Alfred Salomon was born on December 27, 1910 in Dirschau in West Prussia . His father, a postal worker, died in August 1920 at the age of 38. Alfred attended high school in Berlin-Steglitz . He then studied Protestant theology in Berlin and passed the first theological examination on January 30, 1935. He passed the 2nd theological examination after participating in the church seminar on July 29, 1937. After that, he was assistant preacher for the work of young men in Berlin. On September 11, 1937, he married Charlotte Voigt in the Lukaskirche in Steglitz. Contact with the Confessing Church (BK) began during my studies in Berlin. The BK smuggled him into the SS in autumn 1933 in order to gain knowledge of the National Socialist regime; from then on he led a double life in the BK and the SS, among other things he acted as a courier for church writings - in SS uniform. Shortly after the Röhm putsch in July 1934, he was expelled from the SS, thanks to good connections between his brothers in the BK without any consequences for him. Between 1937 and 1945 he was in charge of the Treplin parish . A path there has been named after him since August 2006.

In September 1939, Alfred Salomon was drafted into the Wehrmacht , but shortly afterwards dismissed as unfit for field service. Because of his membership in the Confessing Church, Alfred Salomon was summoned and interrogated several times by the police and the Gestapo in the years that followed . He narrowly escaped imprisonment and concentration camps thanks to his good relationships. Towards the end of the Second War, he managed to escape from Treplin to Alfeld an der Leine.

From 1947 on he worked as a parish priest in Freden (Leine) , where in 1956, observed suspiciously by church leaders, he caused a nationwide sensation by being the first pastor to have his son play tape sermons on a Grundig TK5 tape recorder in the church when his congregation was absent instead of having proxy, with whom the congregation was less satisfied, hold so-called reading services . The community was enthusiastic because Salomon was a professional: "As a part-time writer, he loves to read passages of his manuscripts on tape so that he can convince himself of the euphoria of his formulations with his own ears," wrote Der Spiegel .

Salomon published more than two dozen books between 1951 and 1995, including numerous bestsellers, for which he, for example, rewrote public domain books and reports from the 19th century for young readers. This is how, for example, his book, published several times from 1960 to the 1980s, is based on The Head Hunters of Borneo. The life of Ferdinand Rott. largely based on a biography of Otto Brauns printed in 1861. Other books, such as his David trilogy, which was also published several times up into the 1980s , were narrated biblical stories .

From 1965 until his retirement he was a pastor in the Bundeswehr in the department for life-science teaching in Bonn- Bad Godesberg . He belonged to the Protestant parish in Bonn- Oberkassel , for which he still preached in church services even in old age.

Alfred Salomon was an avid athlete. He was the driving force behind the founding of the Boots-Sport-Club (BSC) Freden (Leine) ; Even when he was almost 50, he played in the handball team of this sports club on the right defender. His other hobbies - ship model building, exotic breeding in the aquarium and training of German shepherds - proved to be suitable, above all, to open the hearts of young people to him. In 1977 he won the golden hiking driver badge for the tenth time.

Alfred Salomon died on December 19, 2006 in Bonn.
