Alfred Schanz

Alfred Schanz (born November 22, 1868 in Oelsnitz / Vogtl. , † November 17, 1931 in Dresden ) was a German orthopedist.

Life

After graduating from high school in Plauen , Schanz studied at the University of Leipzig , the Christian Albrechts University of Kiel and the University of Jena . In Jena he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD. He completed his orthopedic training with Albert Hoffa in Würzburg. In Dresden he opened a medical practice in 1897 ; as early as 1899 he reported about the first 1000 patients and 1900 a private clinic. He dealt with the problems of congenital hip dislocation , coxa vara , scoliosis and spondylitis, which are still difficult today . In 1901 he was one of the founders of the German Society for Orthopedics .

During the First World War , he helped war invalids with prostheses . In 1918 he wrote an obituary for Friedrich Hessing .

He died as a medical councilor shortly before his 63rd birthday.
