Alfred Schmiljan

Alfred Schmiljan (born October 19, 1875 in Berlin , † after 1932) was a German administrative officer and politician ( FVP , DDP , DStP).

Life

After attending school, Schmiljan did naval service from 1890 and then went through an officer career in the Imperial Navy . In 1906 he retired from active service as an upper deck officer . Then he moved to the administration of the city ​​of Danzig . He was initially an unskilled worker, became civil servant in 1907 and, after being promoted to senior city secretary in 1912, was appointed accounting officer. From 1914 to 1918 he served as a soldier in the First World War , most recently as a fireworks lieutenant with the Seewehr II .

During the time of the German Empire , Schmiljan joined the Progressive People's Party (FVP). He was a city councilor in Danzig and from 1913 to 1918 a member of the Prussian House of Representatives .

After the end of the war, Schmiljan was again active as senior city secretary in Gdansk from 1919 to 1920. Furthermore, he was chairman of the working group of civil servants 'and teachers' associations in Gdansk and the surrounding area as well as the association of former deck officers, member of the Hansabund and later honorary chairman of the Gdansk Free City Officials Association and the association of municipal officials in Gdansk. From 1920 until his transfer to active status on 19 August 1932, he served as district administrator of the district Lowenstein .

Schmiljan was one of the founders of the German Democratic Party (DDP) in Danzig and was a member of the DDP party committee from 1929 to 1930. From 1919 to 1921 he was a member of the Prussian State Constituent Assembly for West Prussia and from May 1919 to July 1920 first deputy chairman of the DDP parliamentary group. In the election for the constituent assembly in Gdansk in 1920 he stood as the top candidate of the DDP. From 1920 to 1923 he was a member of the People's Day of the Free City of Danzig . In December 1924 he was elected as a member of the Prussian state parliament, to which he belonged until 1932, after the DDP was renamed in 1930 as a member of the German State Party . In parliament he represented constituency 8 (Liegnitz).
