Alfred Till

Alfred Till (born February 18, 1879 in Vienna ; † October 19, 1959 ibid) was an Austrian paleontologist, soil scientist and geologist.

Till studied geology, geography, petrography and paleontology at the University of Vienna with his doctorate in 1904 (The great natural event of 1348 and the Dobratsch landslides ). From 1907 he was a volunteer at the Geological Reichsanstalt. He completed his habilitation in 1911 at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna , where he became associate professor in 1924 and full professor in 1934. In the 1930s he organized soil mapping for agricultural purposes in Austria. Under the National Socialists he was forced into retirement. From 1945 to 1947 he was rector of the university .
