Max Alfred Zoll (born April 28, 1905 in Leipzig , † October 8, 1982 in Ludwigsburg ) was a German journalist, author and zoo director.

Life

After graduating from school, Zoll initially worked as a bookseller, but then became a journalist and wrote, among other things, for the SPD central organ Vorwärts . After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, he was arrested and then banned from his profession for life. In 1937 he became an employee of the Geozoo , which Heinz Heck had opened in the south of Munich in 1928. After the end of World War II, he headed the zoo's press and advertising department. In 1959 Zoll was appointed director of Hellabrunn Zoo , an office he held until his retirement in 1973. He then became director of the Parque Diana wildlife park in Patagonia , a position that was offered to him by the park's founder, Carl Adolf Vogel . He was also chairman of the Munich Animal Welfare Association for many years until 1978.

Zoll made numerous study trips to game reserves, including seven to Africa and seven to South America. He also worked for the Bavarian radio . Together with Robert Lembke and Friedrich Sauer, he made a number of contributions from Hellabrunn Zoo, including the films Predators - Elephants - Monkeys (1955), In Hellabrunn Aquarium (1955), Elephants - Close Up (1960) and Walk in Hellabrunn Zoo ( 1963). In the 1960s, the radio program of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation broadcast its program Customs Tales from Animals .
