Alfred von Overbeck

Alfred Freiherr von Overbeck , also Alfred d'Overbeck (born April 18, 1877 in Stuttgart , † January 15, 1945 in Freiburg im Üechtland ), was a German - Swiss legal scholar .

Live and act

Overbeck was the son of the Austrian consul general in Hong Kong Gustav Overbeck , who came from Lemgo , and his American wife Romaine, b. Goddard. He studied law at the Universities of Freiburg im Breisgau and Munich . In 1902 he was awarded a doctorate in Freiburg im Breisgau. jur. PhD.

He first entered the Baden civil service, but then took leave for a longer study trip to the USA and Switzerland. In 1906 he became an associate professor and in 1909 a full professor of criminal and procedural law at the University of Freiburg im Üechtland . In 1914 he was visiting professor at the University of Lausanne . For the academic year 1927/28 he took over the rectorate of the Freiburg University.

His son Alfred E. von Overbeck (1925-2016) also became a law professor in Freiburg.
