Alfredo Angulo López (* 11. August 1982 in Mexicali ) is a Mexican professional boxer in the middleweight division .

Amateur career

Alfredo Angulo started boxing at the age of 17 and has played about 100 fights as an amateur. He became a four-time Mexican champion, won the welterweight silver medal at the Central American and Caribbean Championships in the Dominican Republic in 2001, a bronze medal in the light middleweight division at the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador in 2002 , and another bronze medal in the welterweight division at the Pan American Games in 2003 the Dominican Republic. In February 2003 he also managed a win against Timothy Bradley .

In March 2004 he took part in the middleweight division of the American Olympic qualification and reached the final with a win against Jean Pascal , where he was finally defeated on points against Andre Dirrell . By achieving second place he was qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , but lost there in the first fight against Andy Lee .

Professional career

In 2005 he turned pro and won his debut on January 6th against Tomas Padron (1-0). From 2006 to 2009 he won eleven fights in a row by knockout , including against Emmanuel Gonzalez (9-0), Archak TerMeliksetian (16-5), Ricardo Cortes (22-1), Richard Gutierrez (24-1) and Andrei Tsurkan (26-3). In a World Cup elimination match on May 30, 2009 in Florida, he was defeated on points against Kermit Cintrón (30-2).

He then beat Gabriel Rosado (12-3) prematurely in the second round and boxed on November 7, 2009 for the WBO interim world championship in light middleweight, which he knocked out in the third round against Harry Yorgey (22-0) won. He also defeated Joel Julio (35-3) by knockout in the eleventh round, as well as Joachim Alcine (32-1) and Joe Gomez (17-4) both by knockout in the first round.

In November 2011 he finally lost to James Kirkland (29-1) by tKo in the sixth round, but also recorded a knockdown in round 1. After two build-up wins he lost in June 2013 by tKo in the tenth round against Erislandy Lara (17- 1), but had his opponent down twice. In March 2014 he lost against Saúl Álvarez (42-1) also by tKo in the tenth round.

In September 2014 he lost on points to James De la Rosa (22-2). He suffered further defeats in 2016 against Freddy Hernández (33-8) and in 2018 against Sergio Mora (28-5).
