Timothy Ray Bradley junior (born August 29, 1983 in Palm Springs , California , USA ) is an American professional boxer, former WBC junior world champion in light welterweight and welterweight, former WBC world light welterweight champion and former WBO world light welterweight champion .

Amateur career

Bradley started boxing at the age of ten and has played 140 amateur boxing matches in the US, France, Germany and Tahiti. In 2001 he won the gold medal at the US U19 Championship and the gold medal of the National Police Athletic League (PAL). In 2002 he lost in the final of the French 4-nation tournament against Xavier Noël . In 2003 he won the silver medal at the National Golden Gloves , he only lost in the final against the eventual WBC world champion Andre Berto . In the same year he failed again at Andre Berto in the US championship and won bronze.

Professional career

Bradley began his career as a professional boxer in August 2004. He played his first big fight on May 10, 2008 against the British Junior Witter , when he was fighting for the WBC light welterweight title. In this fight he was able to win the world title after a close 2-1 judge decision. After successfully defending his title against Edner Cherry on September 13, 2008 in Biloxi ( Mississippi ), Bradley played a title unification fight against WBO title holder Kendall Holt on April 4, 2009 and won, despite knockdowns in the first and last round, over twelve rounds on points . However, since he should have played against the mandatory challenger Devon Alexander determined by the WBC, the WBC title was stripped from him a little later.

On August 1, 2009, there was the first defense of the WBO title against Nate Campbell . Campbell made a severe cut at the beginning of the third round, so that the fight had to be stopped by the ring doctor in the third round. The referee decided on a technical knockout victory for Bradley, since he had not noticed an accidental headbutt that led to the cut injury. Because of this, this decision was later overturned by the California State Athletic Commission and the fight is considered not to be counted. On December 12, 2009, he won in California unanimously on points against Lamont Peterson (27-0), who had to go to the ground in the third round. In July 2010, there was a unanimous victory on points against the also undefeated Luis Carlos Abregu (29-0).

In January 2011 he defeated the undefeated Devon Alexander (21-0) by a technical decision; in the 10th round Alexander suffered an unintentional headbutt by Bradley a cut injury, which led to the abortion of the fight and evaluation of the score sheet on which Bradley was ahead. In November 2011, he beat Joel Casamayor (38-5) after knocking down in the fifth and sixth round by tKo in the eighth round.

On June 9, 2012, he boxed in Las Vegas against the number 1 welterweight, the Filipino Manny Pacquiao (54-3) and won a highly controversial split decision on points. In March 2013 he defended the title unanimously against Ruslan Prowodnikow (22-1), but was twice down against the more powerful Russian. On October 12, 2013, he won again by a controversial split decision against Juan Manuel Márquez (55-6).

On April 12, 2014 he lost in the rematch against Manny Pacquiao (55-5) unanimously on points and thus suffered his official first professional defeat. In December 2014 he only reached one draw against Diego Gabriel Chaves (23-2). But he defeated Jessie Vargas (26-0) in June 2015 .

In July 2015, the WBO ruled that Floyd Mayweather Jr. must surrender the welterweight title and put Bradley as the titleholder. In November 2015 he defended the title early against Brandon Ríos (33-2). On April 9, 2016, he lost the third fight against Pacquiao clearly on points.
