Kendall Holt (born June 4, 1981 in Paterson , New Jersey ) is a former American professional boxer and WBO light welterweight champion.

Career

As an amateur, Holt won a bronze light welterweight medal at the 2000 National Golden Gloves in Detroit . In 2001 he made his professional debut in Atlantic City with a knockout win in the first round against Frank Zorchak. After 15 build-up fights, he surprisingly lost against Thomas Davis (8-1) in the first round by tKo in June 2004 after he went down twice.

In February 2005 he surprisingly defeated the unbeaten David Díaz (26-0) by tKo in the eighth round and in May 2005 World Cup challenger Jaime Rangel (30-7) on points. In November 2006 he also defeated Isaac Hlatshwayo (25-0) unanimously on points and became North American champion. In April 2007 he managed another unanimous win against Mike Arnaoutis (17-1), who boxed in his last fight for the WBO World Cup and only just lost on points against title holder Ricardo Torres .

In September 2007 Holt boxed himself for the WBO World Championship, but lost to Ricardo Torres (32-1) by tKo in the eleventh round, after he had previously largely dominated the fight. After a points win against Ben Tackie (29-8), there was a rematch with Torres for the WBO title in July 2008. In a spectacular fight Holt won the title with a knockout victory in the first round, after having previously suffered two knockdowns himself.

In December 2008 he defended the title by winning points against Demetrius Hopkins (28-0). In the title union fight against WBC world champion Timothy Bradley (23-0) in April 2009, he lost on points, but scored the first two knockdowns in Bradley's career. In February 2010 Holt suffered another defeat against Kaizer Mabuza (22-6).

In May 2011 he defeated ex-IBF world champion Julio Díaz (38-6) in the third round, before failing on points against Danny García (21-0) in October of the same year . After a loss to Lamont Peterson (30-1) in February 2013, he ended his career.
