Alfredo Bastianelli

Alfredo Bastianelli (* 26. January 1951 in Rome ) is an Italian diplomat in retirement .

He is married to Fiammetta Fiorentino and has three children: Giovanni Battista, Ascanio and Niccolo. In 1978 he graduated from the University of Rome with a law degree .

Diplomatic career

In 1978 he joined the foreign service and was employed in the protocol department.

From January 6, 1981 to June 30, 1983 he was consul in São Paulo , Brazil. From June 30, 1983 to December 9, 1985, he was First Class Legation Secretary in Ottawa . From December 9, 1985 to January 16, 1989, he was First Class Secretary to Maputo . On November 2, 1987 he took on the duties of a Legation Councilor and on May 1, 1988 he was appointed Legation Councilor.

From January 16, 1989 to January 31, 1991 he was employed in Rome in the political department. From January 16, 1989 to July 18, 1994, he was Legation Councilor in Jakarta. From July 18, 1994 to January 25, 1999 he was Counselor in Brussels. From January 1, 2000 to January 22, 2001, he headed the Sub-Saharan Department .

From January 22, 2001 to June 15, 2005 he was ambassador to Luanda ( Angola ) and from September 30, 2002, he was also accredited to São Tomé ( São Tomé and Príncipe ).

From June 15, 2005 to December 1, 2009 he was employed in the protocol department.

From December 1st 2009 to December 2012 he was Ambassador to Nicosia ( Cyprus )

From January 2, 2013 to 2016, he was ambassador to Brussels .
