Alfredo Pastor , in Catalan Alfred Pastor , (born September 30, 1944 in La Seu d'Urgell ) is a Spanish economist .

Life

Alfredo Pastor studied economics at the University of Barcelona in 1968 . He received his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (Ph.D. in Economics) in 1972 and from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) (Doctor en Ciencias Económicas) in 1973 .

He was director of the Instituto de la Empresa Familiar and board member of the Banco de Espana and an economist for the World Bank . From 1985 to 1990 he was President and CEO of Empresa Nacional del Hidroelectrica Ribagorzana (ENHER) . From 1993 to 1995, Pastor was State Secretary for Economic Affairs in the Spanish Ministry of Finance.

Alfredo Pastor is Professor of Economics and holds the Banco Sabadell Chair in Emerging Markets at the IESE Business School of the University of Navarra . He is a former dean and vice president of China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) . He is a member of the boards of Miguel y Costas, Sol Melia and Scania Hispania. He was chairman of Scania Hispania from 1997 to 2001. Since 1989 he has been a board member of Circulo de Economia .

Pastor's main research and teaching areas are the European Union , the economic policies of Spain and China, and the role of the state in the market economy . He is a member of the editorial boards of Moneday Credito and the Recoletos Publishing Group .

In 2004 he was honored with the Grand Cross of the Spanish Order del Mérito Civil . He is a member of the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) .
